President Obama on Friday called Michael Whiteman and Peter Krogdahl's acceptance of their mission to save the world economy an "historic event, almost without parallel", providing hope for people all over the world.

"With Michael and Peter's commitment to rescue the economy, whatever the cost, we can all be confident that this crisis will be concluded most expeditiously" Mr Obama said in a special TV address. "The forces that are pulling the world into this crisis are formidable, but our response will be firm. Michael and Peter are more than equal to the task."

While to many the mission to save the world economy seems impossible, Mr Obama said, he, Mr Brown and Mr Rudd were confident that with Peter and Michael now officially dedicated to it's rescue, the world economy would be recovered and stimulated soon.

While details of the economy's disappearance are still murky, a theory currently gaining traction in Washington is that the ancient and secretive 'Utopian Banking Society' has abducted the economy. One source close to the investigation has revealed, on the condition of anonymity, that the economy was last seen in the company of several men in pin-striped suits late in September of last year.

Administration officials have declined to comment on speculation that the UBS intends to to relocate the economy to Mongolia for their exclusive enjoyment, citing the ongoing investigation.
